Food Justice is about more than pesticide exposure. It is about valuing human life.

at some farms.
It is more than just pesticide exposure that is putting farmworkers and farmers at risk.
Many small scale farmers need to supplement their income. For example, in Canada the 2016 Census of Agriculture found that 44.4% of all farm operators did some off-farm work, usually as a means of supplementing their total income. Just over 3 in 10 (30.2%) operators worked an average of 30 hours a week or more off the farm.
We need to hear and share more of these stories.
Silencing them is a form of abuse.
Farmers and farmworkers and all the other food system workers work hard to feed us. They should be able to support themselves and their families on this profession. We need a different set of priorities for our food system. If we want to grow family scale farming we need to prioritize them over big corporate farms.
But corporate consolidation and lack of transparency and systemic racism does not just affect farmworkers and farmer...continue to follow us for how these root causes link these stories to those of other food system workers as well.
